Sympathy for the Martyr - Yes We Can
Change The World, General No Comments »Now that the American Electoral process has come to a conclusion and Barack Obama has been named as President Elect, it feels as if things are going to be different.
The only thing that bothered me, was during the McCain speech they were talking about Palin for 2012 and people had already started making and selling T-Shirts stating that. This morning on my way to work, I turned on my Zune and the first song to play was Sympathy for the Martyr by Straylight Run. Now, many of you have probably never heard this song, but I’ll give you a sample of the lyrics: (Full lyrics can be found at: http://tinyurl.com/SLSFTM )
You just can't relax, And you can't rely, On anyone for anything, So you make your complaints, And all everyone's let you down, You just cant, Ever win
I think it speaks alot about Sarah Palin and how she acts. But, this post really isn’t about Sarah Palin. This post is about the future.
Although John McCain gave a kind speech (littered by Boo’s from his supporters), the key part of election night was Barack Obama’s speech. If you weren’t able to watch it on TV, you can check it out at http://tinyurl.com/YesWeDid . The cheers from his supporters and them backing him up with Yes We Can was truly a heart warming experience. One thing standing out was the amount of hope that Obama gave in his speech, instead of the fear that was spread in previous years : “The road ahead will be long. Our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year or even one term, but America – I have never been more hopeful than I am tonight that we will get there. I promise you – we as a people will get there. ”
His story of Ann Nixon Cooper and everything she has been through made the crowd go wild. That women has seen many great leaders change the world, and has seen big changes in her own back yard. After every story of hardship followed by a solution, Barack stated “Yes We Can” and the crowd echoed his words back at him.
There will be great changes in the next few years, they may not happen quickly, and they may not always be what is needed, but they will change the world.
I almost think that President Elect Obama should have had Hugh MacLeod do a mini-campaign for him based off of Microsoft’s Blue Monster (http://blogs.msdn.com/stevecla01/archive/2006/10/31/microsoft-change-the-world-or-go-home.aspx), since he will surely be changing the world!
